The novel
The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman has taught me that after the civil war things didn't get better for the slaves, but in fact it got worse. The slaves after the civil war had to find jobs and were being hunted down by the confederates. Many slaves had to keep working on plantations the only difference was they were getting paid a little. People all over the north and south were still very racist and didn't think that the black people deserved anything. As time passed racism slowly died down, but for a long time racism stood.
